STARTING WITH PACKETS OF SEEDS.

If you are going to start with a packet of seeds, it is a good idea to have an old egg carton with some potting mix or some sandy type soil. David and Travis, who are neighbours of ours, will help to show what to do.

First of all we need to put a small amount of soil in each section of the egg carton. Use a cardboard type one. This way the section can be planted straight into the ground when the seedling is ready. The cardboard will just turn into compost.

LETS SEE WHAT DAVID AND TRAVIS DID.

This is what the boys started with. The empty egg carton.

They have filled the sections with soil and made sure that the soil is a little damp.

Travis uses a pencil to make holes for the seeds. They put one seed in each hole, in each compartment in the egg carton. Then carefully cover the seed with soil.

Now David and Travis are using a spray bottle to give the seeds water. This makes sure the seeds get water, but at the same time not disturbing them in the soil. See what they have planted. Beans. You can plant whatever you want. We will show you in the next section which season is best to plant what seeds.

The best place to put your egg carton is where it will get lots of sun, and out of the way so it doesnt get knocked over. Remember to spray a little water on the carton every day so that it doesnt dry out. Not too much. We dont want to drown our seeds! As soon as the seeds start to grow. You are ready for the next step in the next section. Planting your seedlings.
